My name is Eugenio Lopez, and I am proud to be running for the Worthington School Board.
This past week, I officially filed to run for the Worthington School Board. As of the deadline on Tuesday, I am one of three candidates who have filed for the three open seats. While the current field could fill the available seats, I didn't decide to run simply because there was an opening. I chose to run because I believe serving our community begins long before Election Day. I want to listen to your ideas, understand your concerns, and earn your trust and your vote. Every voter deserves to know who they're electing and what that person stands for.
Worthington has been my home my entire life. I grew up here, attended school here, and have watched our community grow and change over the years. Our district has become one of the most diverse and vibrant in Minnesota, and I believe every student deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background.
I decided to run because I want to be a voice for our community and for the families who want to see our schools continue to improve. I believe that listening to parents, supporting our teachers and staff, and making thoughtful, transparent decisions are essential to building trust and creating the best possible learning environment for our students.
My top priority is student achievement. Every decision made by the school board should answer one question: How does this help our students succeed? Whether it's improving academic outcomes, expanding career and technical education, preparing students for college, or ensuring every child has the resources they need to thrive, our focus must remain on student success.
I believe our differences are one of Worthington's greatest strengths. By working together with parents, educators, students, and community members, we can continue building schools that prepare every student for a successful future.
I would be honored to earn your vote, hear your ideas, and have the opportunity to serve the Worthington community on the School Board.
Improving test scores starts with understanding what our students need and how we can better support them. I also want to recognize that ISD 518 is already doing a lot of work in this area, including providing extra reading and math support, intervention programs, tutoring, and opportunities for teachers to work together to help students who may be struggling.
As a school board member, I would want to build on that work rather than assume we need to start over. We should listen to our teachers and families, look at what is working, and be willing to make changes when something is not.
This year also brings a new Reading MCA-IV, so we should be thoughtful when looking at the 2026 results and comparing them with previous years.
Ultimately, I want our focus to be bigger than a test score. We should make sure every student is getting the support they need to learn, grow, and feel confident in their education. Our goal should always be helping every student succeed.
